Summer in February

We had a great little campout at Lake Houston Wilderness Park this past weekend.  Friday evening the scouts had hot dogs, tent city, a couple skits, and more.  The leaders prepared a sausage and shrimp jambalaya which made several scouts a little envious!  Saturday's breakfast was great burritos with eggs, sausage, potatoes, topped with salsa and cheese.

The morning was spent by older scouts teaching younger scouts some 2nd and 1st class skills.  We made a camp gadget and played around on a monkey bridge.

We met Lauren and Brock from the nature center to help with trail service. The troop spent an hour driving shovels into the ground along the trail edge which was the precursor for sod removal and steel edging installation.  The trail should be completed within the next couple of weeks by the park staff.

We then visited the nature center and learned about SE Texas natural habitat.  We also were privileged to handle a Albino King Snake! That was quite a thrill for the boys.

Till next time!

Houston Food Bank!

Feb 10, 2016.

Troop 474 had a fun night preparing backpack meals at the Houston Food Bank. Backpack meals are 6 meals to cover children who do not have sufficient meals/food in their homes to make if through the weekend.  The backpack meal was simple, with only 2 jars of milk, small amount of cereal, a handful of canned vegetables & meat, and a snack.  The troop  help prepare 18 pallet loads of meals which is about 3600 backpacks.  This service was a reminder to me how important it is to treat our fellow man with love and respect. Be grateful and humble.  Looking forward to going back!
